Help My Unbelief

This is what I wish trusting God was like:

  "Cross that bridge my child."

   "But it's so high."

   "Trust me."

   "But what if I fall?"

   "I won't let you fall."

So I trust Him and cross the bridge.

Instead, I have found it's more like this:

  I take a step. "God, I can't do this."

"Yes, you can, because I am with you."

  "Are you sure?"

 "Yes."

I take a small step, then look down. "I'm going to fall!"

 "No, I will catch you."

 "Okay, I trust You."

I take another step and the wind  jostles me and I cry out, "God, don't leave me!"

And He says, "I have never left."

So I take a step. Gaining confidence I then say, "Actually, God, I'm good. You can go help some other person. I have this covered and I don't need You."

Until I fall and He catches me, starting the cycle all over again.

I either don't trust Him or only trust in myself.

Lord, help me learn how to trust You. Please let me not only believe and know You are trustworthy but help me live it out in my life. Help my unbelief.

  1. Amen Allison! This perspective seems almost laughable but I know from experience that I am just like the main character and God really is just like God in this story! You've drawn a great picture for us readers.
    Thanks for the encouraging post!

    1. You're welcome. I was trying to make it realistic and laughable to make a point, so glad you thought that way. :)

  3. This is very true and you capture perfectly what many of us go through! I definitly want God to my entire confidence, but so often I doubt Him, or over misplace my trust. Thanks for sharing! Blessings!
